A LONG AWAITED GET TOGETHER!

It was important for us to be able to organise again a gathering of AMEL sailing yachts. For this 2022 edition, the island of Porquerolles was chosen as the base for 3 days of navigation and sharing under a sun-drenched land and the pristine clear blue seas of the Mediterranean. 12 crews met to race together, in a very jovial spirit, in order to live great moments of discovery and exchanges in a festive atmosphere.

AMEL 60’s, AMEL 50’s and AMEL 55’s were thus able to set sail. To each his quality and his strategy! Be it with family or friends, every team was to discover or rediscover Porquerolles, this island with two faces!

The first sea leg headed northeast towards Brégançon!

It’s from the mouth of the port of Porquerolles that the participants start this first regatta on Friday morning, with a departure launched at 9:30 am, taking the direction of the Batterie des Maures, a former military building located opposite La Londe-les-Maures, and near the Fort of Brégançon. Good mood prevails, the crews eager to face each other and mark their place on the water’s surface. Congratulations to Loveli (AMEL 60) and JMFLO (AMEL 50) for this first great race! The 50 Almaviva is not to be outdone and promises us some nice surprises for the .
At the end of this journey, all the teams disembarked on the beach of the Grand Jardin at the foot of the Château de Brégançon, home to the Cru Classé bio of the Provence vineyard, in order to share a cocktail lunch and exchange on this first morning’s proceedings. The afternoon continues with a visit to the castle and its cellars, as well as a tasting of the property’s wines, before returning quietly to port, each at his own pace.

The Fourmigues, Go West!

After a day where the participants discovered themselves, it’s a far more regatta savvy crews that we meet on day two. The wind, very present, allows the crews to navigate under full sails, in an almost Caribbean scenery on this side of the island, with its beaches of fine sand and turquoise waters! We also witness a beautiful parade of colourful sails when the gennakers are set. The gaps are closing and classification on arrival is tight! Almaviva and JMFLO maintain their rank in the top three and Loveli relinquishes her place to another AMEL 60, Tao. The two AMEL 50’s have not said their last word and are comforting their positions, watch out for TAO for the last leg!

To continue on this sweltering day, it is under the shade of the trees of the Domaine de la Courtade that the whole group meets for a lunch at the foot of the Carmignac Foundation. And to recover from a very rich morning, the participants are then invited to let their senses carry them during a visit to the exhibition “The Dream of Ulysses” inside the villa. In this bewildering maze, everyone navigates amongst works of art, avoiding the traps and illusions, mirrors and trompe l’oeil along the way, created by the scenographer Margherita Palli.

The day ends with dinner at the Villa Sainte-Anne, in the very heart of the village of Porquerolles.

Circumnavigation of Porquerolles from the East

This third and final day is replete with emotions. For this last part of the competition, it is the complete tour of the island of Porquerolles that the crews undertake, leaving from the port’s front, and heading East.

After having exchanged the day before around dinner with the other teams, everyone is on the starting blocks hoping to win this last race. In the lead, positions are bitterly fought and this remains so right up to the last moments. A beautiful double win by Almaviva followed by Rose Marius and Tao, who held the head of the flotilla of this regatta for a long time.

To end the day and present the prizes of the AMEL CUP MED 2022, the venue was at the Mas du Langoustier where participants and the AMEL team met . A magnificent hotel restaurant surrounded by a 50-hectare park of greenery, located at the western tip of the island of Porquerolles. Thus, under the chirps of the cicadas, the winners were awarded their trophies and the whole group shared a wonderful convivial moment. The exchanges allowed to take stock of this event and already ideas are proposed for a new edition in 2023!
