Further to the French President’s speech of March 16 and the confinement imposed by our government, we had decided on March 17 to suspend our production activity. Only a small team remained in the yard to achieve the finishing works on two boats. Since then we have worked on how to organize the return to work and on April 8 we could see 30% of our staff coming back to the yard, all volunteers and all covered by our labour doctor’s recommendations (personal protective equipment, tools disinfection, barrier gestures, social distancing, etc.).
So, a few employees were able to return to their work, in every stage of the production line. The workshops of course are still very quiet compared to usual conditions, but we are very happy to have adapted ourselves to the situation and to have managed a progressive return to our activity. We are very grateful to our teams who submit themselves to these particular working conditions. Our wish is to return to a full activity as soon as possible, knowing that the new confinement period imposed by our government is running until May 11.
Our partners such as carriers, crane operators and harbour staff have also partially returned to work, and thanks to them we could launch an Amel 50 last week.
This crisis has disturbed everyone and will keep on disturbing a lot of people during several months. It keeps our minds busy all day (and sometimes all night too!). But at Amel we have the will and the resources to go back to our work, respecting all the rules imposed by the current situation of course. Our staff is ready and is looking forward to being fully operational again, in order to keep on building Amel yachts and to see many of them sailing on all the seas very soon.
